History

Boston Firefighters Credit Union was established on November 25, 1947, opening our doors to welcome the first BFCU members in 1948. We were founded by a group of Boston Firefighters who saw a need to collaborate and help each other with safe and affordable financial services, that collaboration has grown from the initial small group to almost 12,000 members today. 

Since our founding, BFCU has taken great pride in serving our members with a steadfast commitment to offer financial solutions customized to meet your unique needs.  We listen to our members’ special financial needs by working hard to be progressive and competitive, while not straying from our legacy of serving first responders and their family members. 

For almost 8 decades, BFCU has had the privilege to serve our founding core members from the Boston Fire Department and over the years have expanded to share the benefit of membership with other first responder groups and family members.  Today we welcome all Massachusetts first responders, which includes firefighters, law enforcement, municipal EMS and Suffolk County Sheriffs.
